Greetings! We hope all is well in your neck of the woods, wherever those woods may be. :-)
Here is our recent family photo. Donnie, me, Katie, Wiley the cat and Sandi the dog. Sadly, our other cat, Hero, went to sleep out in the sun on Friday and didn't wake up. He was a sweet kitty, but he never would have put up with posing for a family picture!
We had Katie's eye appointment and apnea clinic today. Both gave us great news. Her eye specialist does not expect her to have any vision loss and doesn't need to see her again for 6 months. (Good thing too, cause I think she's working on a right hook to give him - she DOES NOT enjoy having her little eyes messed with!) She will be seeing a regular pediatric opthamologist next month, but just to get established as his patient.
The first good news from the apnea clinic came when I spoke to them on the phone yesterday. Evan (Katie's nicu boyfriend) had his Mom tell me that even though our primary insurance wouldn't cover Synagis, the RSV shot, until November that TennCare might. I checked with the apnea clinic because they would have submitted the request to TennCare. They had overlooked Katie's file when they did the submissions, so they gave her her first Synagis injection today, FREE. How's that for them taking responsibility and really caring for their patients? We were very impressed. (although Katie could have done without the needle!) We also got the news that Katie no longer needs constant monitoring. No more monitor. No more plastic electrodes rubbing her underarms raw. No more tight belt around her chest. And no more peace of mind for Mom and Dad! No, that isn't true. We are just going to trust God to continue to take care of her, just like He has for the past 6 months, and even before. But it is going to be an adjustment for us, not having that crutch. Please pray for our peace of mind.
Even though Katie got her first Synagis injection today, we still aren't going to be taking her out much, if at all. She is still vulnerable, but if she gets an RSV infection now, it should be much milder than if she didn't have this protection. We are so thankful that she was able to get it.
Have a wonderful week and thank you so much for checking in! xoxoxo from Katie!
